The Cardinals could only muster four hits off Boston starter Jon Lester, one of those a home run from Matt Holliday, but catcher David Ross hit a tiebreaking RBI double in a two-run seventh inning off Adam Wainwright and the Red Sox beat the Cardinals 3-1 Monday night to take a 3-2 World Series lead.

David Ortiz’s RBI double in the first put the Red Sox up 1-0 in the first after Dustin Pedroia doubled off Wainwright. The Cardinals ace pitched seven innings and struck out ten, but took his second loss of the series as Lester beat Wainwright for the second time. Wainwright allowed all three runs and eight hits in seven innings with 10 strikeouts and a walk. He also gave up Jacoby Ellsbury’s RBI single in the seventh.

Lester struck struck out seven and walked one in 7.2 innings, and Koji Uehara finished the four-hitter for his second save, striking out two in 1.1 innings.
