Man killed by elephant at Springfield Zoo (AUDIO)

October 11, 2013 By Jessica Machetta

Reports are coming out of the Dickerson Park Zoo this morning that a zookeeper was killed in an accident with an elephant.

Zoo Director Mike Crocker tells Missourinet affiliate KTTS News that 62-year-old John Bradford had worked for the zoo for the last 25 years.

Bradford was separated from the 41-year-old elephant, named Patience, at the time of the attack. He was also with several other zoo employees as part of a pre-existing safety plan. The Zoo says Patience is known to be aggressive; she has been at the Dickerson Park Zoo since 1990.

AUDIO: KTTS News assistant news director Nancy Simpson reports from the scene.
