A nice homecoming for Cardinals left field Matt Holliday. He hit a two run homer in the fifth inning, but by the then the damage was already done. That put the Cardinals up 10-0 at that point. They go onto win 11-4 and move one game ahead of the Pirates who lost 5-2 to San Diego. Holliday, who played five seasons in Colorado finished 4 for 4 with a walk, double and that two-run homer. He also drove in three runs and scored twice. Cincinnati beat Houston 10-0, they remain 2.5 back.

The Royals held a 3-0 lead heading into the sixth inning, but Cleveland got to the bullpen, beating the Royals 5-3. The Indians tied the game 3-3 in the seventh off reliever Kelvin Herrera, and tookthe lead in the eighth off Wade Davis (7-11). Michael Bourn added a homer in the ninth to provide a cushion. For six innings, rookie pitcher Yordano Ventura dazzled the crowd. The Royals pitching prospect threw six shutout innings topping 101 on the radar gun with his fastball.
