Alex Smith threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys, and the Chiefs defense held the lead up in the fourth quarter for a 17-16 victory.

Dwayne Bowe’s go-ahead touchdown catch and Ryan Succop’s field goal gave the Chiefs a 17-13 lead, early in the fourth quarter. Dan Bailey kicked a 53-yard field goal with 3:50 to play.

The Chiefs regained possession late and Jamaal Charles was able to help grind out a couple first downs, and a pass interference helped as well. Tony Romo, 30 of 42 for 298 yards, didn’t have much time at the end of the game.

Smith has led the Chiefs to touchdowns on all five of their red-zone drives this season, including both chances against the Cowboys. Last season the Chiefs scored a touchdown on a league-worst 27% of their red zone drives.
