Cardinals starter Shelby Miller held the Brewers scoreless and allowed five hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 6.2 innings as the Cardinals beat Milwaukee 4-2 to maintain their one game lead over Pittsburgh. The Pirates beat Texas 5-4. The 22 year old Miller is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in four starts against Milwaukee, the other two wins coming at Miller Park.

Matt Holliday’s two-run homer broke up Wily Peralta’s no-hit bid in the sixth inning and Matt Carpenter and Matt Adams added RBIs in the seventh and eighth.

Milwaukee pinch hitter Logan Schafer’s two-run homer off Edward Mujica in the ninth broke the shutout bid for the Cardinals.

The Cubs beat the Reds, dropping them to three games behind the Cardinals.
