Michael Wacha pitched seven shutout innings and drove in two runs as the Cardinals completed a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 9-2 win on Sunday. The Cardinals outscored Pittsburgh 26-10 overall in taking the NL Central lead.

The Pirates came into the weekend with a 1.5 game division lead and left trailing the Cardinals by 1.5 games.

Wacha (3-0) allowed two hits and walked two, and both hits were snuffed out on double plays. He struck out two and now hasn’t allowed a run in 19.2 consecutive innings.

Matt Carpenter set the single season record for hits in a season at Busch Stadium, by going 2 for 3.  He broke Albert Pujols’ record of 55 set in 2008.
