The Detroit Tigers scored five runs in the second and fourth innings and pounded out 26 hits in a 16-2 win over the Royals, Friday night at Kauffman Stadium.
Royals starter James Shields pitched 3.2 innings and gave up 10 earned runs on 14 hits and two walks. Luis Mendoza came on to relieve Shields and was pounded for five more runs on eight hits and three walks. I guess the surprising thing is that the Tigers never homered.
Omar Infante set career highs with five hits and six RBIs, Andy Dirks also went 5 for 5 and Austin Jackson drove in four runs.
