The MIAA football season got off to a wild start with several Missouri teams hitting the field on Thursday night.
#6 Missouri Western 26, Central Missouri 23
Missouri Western scored with 14 seconds to play to pull out a victory on the road over Central Missouri. MWSU trailed 16-7 into the third quarter but used two long scoring plays to get back into the game.
For the Griffons Travis Partridge threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Raphael Spencer carried the ball for 91 yards and scored the other MWSU TD. On defense Stephen Juergens and Nick Williams added 10 stops. For the Mules Hayden Hawk was 28 of 42 for 322 yards and two touchdowns. Collen Rosine and Anthony Kirkwood each pulled down touchdown receptions. Zach Quines had nine tackles on defense while Tevin Teamer pulled down an interception and returned it for a touchdown.
#3 Northwest Missouri 45, #18 Saginaw Valley 24
Northwest Missouri scored 21 points in the second quarter to create some space and earn a victory over #18 Saginaw Valley State. The Bearcats got 333 passing yards and forced three turnovers to take the victory.
For the Bearcats Trevor Adams was 15 of 20 for 285 yards and a touchdown. On the ground Billy Creason ran for 55 yards and a touchdown while Robert Burton carried the ball for 51 yards and two scores. On defense for NWMSU Eric Reimer had 12 total tackles while Travis Manning pulled down an interceptions.
Missouri Southern 52, Central Oklahoma 38
Missouri Southern jumped out to a 35-14 halftime lead at home over Central Oklahoma and held on for their first victory. The game saw 984 yards of total offense between the two teams.
For the Lions Jay McDowell was 10 for 11 for 232 yards and two touchdown while rushing for 121 yards and two TD’s. On the receiving end Giresse Forchu caught the ball three times for 107 yards and a score. On defense for MSSU Jason Brown had a team leading nine tackles and Michael Burks pulled down an interception. For the Bronchos on offense Joshua Birmingham carried the ball 29 times for 169 yards and four touchdowns. Adrian Nelson had 328 yards and a touchdown through the air. Aaron Shoecraft had nine tackles and Mike Harris had the lone UCO sack.
Lindenwood 24, Lincoln 22
Lindenwood outscored Lincoln 24-3 over the first three quarter and overcame 19 Blue Tiger points in the fourth quarter to pull out a win. Lindenwood finished with 377 yards through the air to earn the season opening victory.
For the Lions Dillon Miller was 34 of 52 for 363 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Gater caught ten passes for 107 yards to lead all receivers on the night. On defense Connor Harris had 17 tackles while Pierre Desir pulled down seven. For LU Jacob Morris threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Morris Henderson finished with 99 yards rushing on the evening. On defense Markuice Savage had 10 tackles and Brian Smith finished with nine.
