The Missouri Tigers host Toledo this Saturday (2:30 CT) and the Rockets opened their season against another SEC East Division team, the Florida Gators. Toledo lost 24-6 as their high powered offense was shut down by one of the best defenses in the country.

Joining us for an early preview of Toledo is Jason Lieser, Gators beat writer for the Palm Beach Post. He tells us Florida slowed Toledo down by using their run first offense and keeping Toledo senior quarterback Terrance Owens off the field. In addition, it was tough for Toledo to do anything against Florida’s defense.  The Rockets were held to 50 yards rushing and Owens was held to just 3.6 yards per play.

Lieser says if Mizzou can keep Toledo off the field and chew up time on the clock, the Tigers will keep the score low. The issue is Missouri likes to pick up the pace at times and this could turn into a high scoring, back and forth type of game.

Watch for #1 Bernard Reedy. He’s Toledo’s top receiver.  He was a first team receiver and punt returner and second team kickoff returner in the MAC last season. The past two seasons, he’s been the team’s bowl game MVP. Lieser said he’s not quite sure why Reedy isn’t playing at a big time SEC school…he’s that talented.
