All tied up. Pirates tag Miller again in Cardinals loss

August 31, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Cardinals starter Shelby Miller gave up two home runs, including one to Pittsburgh first baseman Garrett Jones who broke out of a horrible slump. Jones drove in four runs as the Pirates topped the Cardinals 5-0 to even up the NL Central Division race. It’s the fifth time this season, Miller has given up two home runs in the same game and the third time against Pittsburgh.

Francisco Liriano beat the Cardinals once again, going eight innings, allowing two hits and striking out six. The Cardinals have lost twice to Liriano, scoring just one run in 15 innings and striking out 14 times.
