Jake Westbrook has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain. He was 0-4 with an ERA of 9.69 in his last five starts.
The Cardinals recalled 21-year-old Carlos Martinez was recalled from Triple-A Memphis. Martinez has a 2.66 ERA with 54 strikeouts and 26 walks in 61 innings with Memphis, and a 6.19 ERA with 13 strikeouts and seven walks in 16 innings with St. Louis.
