The Mizzou volleyball team opened its 2013 season with the annual Black & Gold scrimmage at the Hearnes Center Thursday night with the Black team earning a 3-0 (20-11, 20-18, 20-15) sweep over the Gold squad. The Black squad was led by senior All-American Lisa Henning of Blue Springs, Mo. She had 13 kills while junior All-SEC middle blocker Whitney Little added seven kills on .583 hitting with three blocks.

“I thought we did a lot of things really well tonight and it was great to see how we performed in front of a live crowd,” head coach Wayne Kreklow said. “But as a coach, I am also very picky and there are a lot of things that we could have done better tonight. I was happy with how a lot of the freshmen performed in their first match as well. Now we need to shore up the things that we need to work on this week in practice and get ready for next weekend.”

Mizzou will open the season next weekend at the annual Tiger Invitational, beginning next Friday at 2 p.m. vs. South Dakota. All matches next weekend are free admission.
