Scherzer gets 18th win as Royals lose

August 18, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Miguel Cabrera hit his 40th home run and added an RBI single to help Missouri native Max Scherzer become baseball’s first 18-game winner as the Detroit Tigers beat the Royals 6-3 Sunday to take three out of five in the series.

Scherzer gave up two runs on five hits over eight innings. Bruce Chen suffered his first loss as a starter, now 5-1, by allowing six earned runs on eight hits over 5 .1 innings.

Billy Butler homered in the ninth.
