Cabrera’s walk-off pushes Detroit past the Royals

August 18, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Miguel Cabrera hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the ninth inning off Aaron Crow lifting the Detroit Tigers to a 6-5 win over the Royals. Kansas City rallied three times to tie the game, with the Tigers answering in the next half-inning to re-take the lead.

Royals starter Wade Davis allowed four runs on eight hits and lasted just 3.2 innings. Alex Gordon and Salvy Perez singled in two runs in third to make it a 3-2 game and Alcides Escobar tied it with a double in the top of the fourth.

Cabrera put Detroit back on top with his 24th double. After Perez homered in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4, Prince Fielder put Detroit back on top with a solo homer in the bottom half of the frame.

Kansas City tied the game for a third time in the eighth inning when Emilo Bonifacio singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error and then scored on Chris Getz’s RBI single off Jose Veras.
