Royals fall in extra innings

August 14, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Miami rookie Christian Yelich single home the go-ahead run with one out in the 10th inning off reliever Kelvin Herrera, giving the Marlins a 1-0 victory over the Royals. Herrera just caught the jersey of Jake Marisnick with an inside pitch in the 10th. Marisnick stole second and scored on Yelich’s single through the right side hole putting Miami on top.

Starters Bruce Chen and Jose Fernandez had themselves a pitcher’s duel. Chen went seven innings, giving up three hits, three walks and six strikeouts. Fernandez also pitched seven, striking out six, while allowed three hits and only one walk.

The Royals finished with a total of four hits, two coming from Alcides Escobar.
