This may have been the break that the Cardinals were waiting for. With one out in the ninth inning, a sure handed pop fly is dropped by Pittsburgh’s left fielder Starling Marte. Daniel Descalso goes to the second base and scores on Allen Craig’s single to tie a game, that the Cardinals eventually won in 11 innings after trailing 3-0.
While the Cardinals have stumbled they still control their own destiny with a 5.5 game lead in the wild card, but last night’s game could put some pressure on the Pirates for the NL Central lead.
