Matt Holliday homered for twice for the Cardinals, but the club lost its fourth in a row, falling to the Chicago Cubs 6-5 Saturday night. The Cubs win a series in St. Louis for the first time in nearly three years.
Pinch-hitter Dioner Navarro hit a run-scoring double in the eighth inning to cap a three-run rally. The Cubs trailed 4-2 entering the eighth, but tied it 4-4 on Darwin Barney’s two-out, two-run double by off reliever Trevor Rosenthal. Navarro followed with his hit to give Chicago a 5-4 lead.
Kevin Gregg picked up his 25th save in 29 opportunities despite giving up Holliday’s 15th homer of the season, a solo shot with one out in the ninth. On the next pitch, David Freese lined one back to Gregg, hitting him in the shoulder. The ball bounced to shortstop Starlin Castro on one hop and he threw out Freese.
