One dead, dozens evacuated from flooding in Pulaski County

August 6, 2013 By Jessica Machetta

The body of a 4-year-old boy has been found in Mitchell Creek because of flooding in the Waynesville area. Pulaski County sheriff Ron Long says authorities are still searching for missing people, but he doesn’t know how many.

He says several water rescues have been performed including one rescue for two deputies helping other people. Long says in that situation, the best outcome was achieved — no one was injured.

Up to 50 homes have been evacuated in low-lying areas; The Gasconade River is over Highway 17, which has been closed. Shelters have been set up at the St. Robert Community Center or the Westside Baptist church.

Long says propane tanks have broken free — he’s urging everyone to stay out of the area.

Updates to come as details become available.
