Kansas City Royals All-Star catcher Salvador Perez was placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list prior to Sunday’s game against the New York Mets.

Perez suffered the injury in Saturday’s 12-inning game against the Mets. He spent the night in a hospital.

The right-handed hitter is batting .278 with 19 doubles, four homers and 43 RBI in 92 games this season.

Catcher Brett Hayes was called up from Triple-A Omaha to take Perez’s place. Starting pitcher Wade Davis was placed on the family emergency list and pitcher Will Smith was recalled from Omaha to join the staff.

Hayes hit .231 with 11 homers and 34 RBI in 68 games with Omaha this season.

Davis left the Royals during the first inning of Saturday’s game because of a medical emergency involving his brother. The right-hander is 5-9 with a 5.42 ERA in 21 appearances this year.

Smith is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in six games (one start) with Kansas City this year.
