Cards hit 13 again to topple Reds

August 3, 2013 By Missourinet Contributor

David Freese and Jon Jay combined to drive in seven runs Friday, sending St. Louis coasting to a 13-3 victory over Cincinnati.

The Cardinals came up with 14 hits to win their second straight on the heels of a seven-game losing streak.

St. Louis scored four times in the first and built a 12-0 lead through five innings.

Freese had a three-run double in the first to ignite the offense and added a bases-loaded walk during a four-run fourth.

Jay singled in a run during the first and had a two-run double in the fourth.

Shelby Miller (11-7) was the beneficiary of the offensive surge and was relieved after throwing 97 pitches in five-plus innings. He gave up three runs on five hits and struck out eight.

St. Louis got to Bronson Arroyo (9-9) for seven runs on eight hits in just 3 2/3.
