Alex Presley’s ground ball up the middle deflected off Cardinals relief pitcher Kevin Siegrist’s glove into left field allowing the winning run to score from second in the bottom of the 11th as the Pirates took game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader, 2-1. Had Siegrist not deflected the ball it most likely would have gone to Pete Kozma, who was moving to his left, who could have turned it into a double play.

The Pirates had runners on first and second with one out when Presley delivered the game winner.

The Pirates scored in the first inning off Lance Lynn after Andrew McCutcheon and Pedro Alvarez hit back to back doubles with two outs. The Cardinals tied the game in the third on a Matt Holliday ground out, but the Cardinals wasted a golden opportunity, loading the bases with one out against Pirates starter A.J. Burnett.

Each team finished with six hits.
