The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled lefty reliever Marc Rzepczynski from Triple-A Memphis.

Rzepczynski was a big part of St. Louis’ bullpen last year, allowing runs in just three of his final 33 appearances. He struggled at the outset of this season, however, surrendering seven runs on 13 hits over eight innings before a demotion to the minors at the end of April.

The 27-year-old veteran appeared in 32 games for Memphis and was 1-2 with a 3.07 ERA. He struck out 31 batters in 44 innings and limited left-handed hitters to a .185 batting average.

Right-hander Carlos Martinez was optioned to Memphis to open a roster spot.
