Hitless in ten at-bats and in a 3-for-20 slide, Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 and hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth off Justin Verlander to give the Royals a 6-5 victory of the American League Central leading Detroit Tigers.

Verlander (10-7) had not lost to the Royals since Sept. 9, 2009, but gave up six runs, five earned, on eight hits and four walks in 5.2 innings. Jeremy Guthrie (9-7) picked up the victory, surrendering five runs on 10 hits and two walks in six innings.

Salvador Perez also came up big offensively for the Royals. He drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly and a two-run double in the third. The Royals close to within six games of Detroit and look for the sweep on Sunday.
