Beltran and Perez deliver hits in All-Star game (AUDIO/VIDEO)

July 17, 2013 By Bill Pollock

The American League beat the National League 3-0 to gain home field advantage for the World Series. Royals catcher Salvador Perez singled and scored in the eighth inning. It was the first Royals hit in an All-Star Game since Bo Jackson went 2 for 4 including a homer in 1989. Royals closer Greg Holland gave up one hit and a strikeout.  A nice defensive gem from Baltimore’s Manny Machado helped Holland out. (VIDEO from MLB.com)

Royals left fielder Alex Gordon flew out deep to center with two outs in the ninth in his only at-bat and made a nice catch on the Cardinals’ Allen Craig. who faced Mariano Rivera, the game’s MVP.
