Lynn struggles as Cards come up short

July 14, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Cardinals starter Lance Lynn got roughed up for six runs on 11 hits in just 4.1 innings as the Chicago Cubs held off the Cardinals 6-4, Saturday evening at Wrigley Field.  It was Lynn’s second shortest outing of the season.

Cubs starter Matt Garza allowed a season-high 10 hits in 6.2 innings, but held the top scoring offense in the National League to two runs while improving to 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA in his last six starts.

The Cardinals threatened late scoring single runs in each of the last three innings. Jon Jay had four hits and Matt Adams went 2 for 4, but the Cardinals left 13 runners on base and were just 3 for 11 with runners in scoring position.
