Cardinals starter Lance Lynn reached 11 victories prior to the All-Star break in both of his years in the rotation as he went seven innings to match All-Star Adam Wainwright for the team lead in wins. He struck out seven in the Cardinals 3-2 win over the Miami Marlins.

Edward Mujica pitched for the fourth straight game and finished it out for his 23rd save in 24 chances, giving him a win and two saves in the series against his former team.

Matt Holliday connected on his 12th homer of the season, 420-feet to straightaway center in the first. Allen Craig hit a sac fly and a wide throw to the plate from first baseman Logan Morrison helped Carlos Beltran score on a double steal with Holliday in the third.

The Cubs beat the Pirates, 4-3 in 11-innings, to help the Cardinals gain a game in the standings.
