Gordon, Kottaras homers can’t help Royals

July 7, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Oakland starter A.J. Griffin allowed solo homers by George Kottaras and Alex Gordon, but Josh Reddick homered and drove in four runs and Jed Lowrie and Eric Sogard also went deep as the Athletics beat the Royals 10-4 on Sunday.

Reddick hit a two-run double during the A’s five-run second inning, and he added a two-run homer off Bruce Chen in the third. The right fielder also had two RBIs during a series-opening win Friday night, and  drove in another run in a 4-3 loss on Saturday.

Luis Mendoza allowed the five runs in the second inning for the Royals, and was yanked after 1.1 innings, his shortest start in exactly five years (July 7, 2008), when he was with Texas.
