This time Matheny sticks with Wainwright

June 30, 2013 By Bill Pollock

After last Sunday’s loss, Adam Wainwright voiced his frustrations for being pulled by manager Mike Matheny against the Texas Rangers. The two talked privately and Wainwright apologized for venting in public, but Wainwright certainly got his message across. Waino picked up his 11th win of the season, going the distance in a 7-1 win over the Oakland A’s.

Wainwright tossed a five-hitter as he tied Washington’s Jordan Zimmermann for most wins in the NL. He struck out eight and walked two in a 112-pitch effort for his fourth complete game this year and 15th of his career.

Matt Adams hit a three-run homer, part of a four-run sixth and added a solo shot in the eighth.  Daniel Descalso, Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday picked up RBIs as well.
