Royals to part ways with Francoeur

June 30, 2013 By Bill Pollock

The Royals today designated outfielder Jeff Francoeur for assignment and brought up infielder Johnny Giavotella from Omaha (AAA). He will play Sunday when the Royals wrap-up their series in Minneapolis. Francoeur, on the last year of a two-year contract, was hitting .208 (28-for-183) with three homers and 13 RBI this year.

“Jeff made incredible contributions to our ballclub and our community,” said Dayton Moore, Royals’ Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. “I personally want to thank him for the winning attitude he brought to our clubhouse and our city.”
