Royals walk off with win over Tigers

June 12, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Eric Hosmer singled home Miguel Tejada with two outs in the bottom of the tenth, as the Royals rallied to stun the Detroit Tigers, in a 3-2 final Wednesday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth and were down to their last strike when Lorenzo Cain hit a two run homer off Jose Valverde to tie the game, giving Tigers ace Justin Verlander a no-decision.

In the tenth, Tejada led off with a single off Phil Coke and moved to second on Alcides Escobar’s sac bunt. Alex Gordon’s ground out to first moved Tejada 90-feet away. He scored on Hosmer’s hit.

Prior to the ninth inning, the Royals were doing absolutely nothing against Verlander. He allowed just three hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out eight.
