What better way to follow up a tough losing streak, then to get on a roll and keep it going against the division leaders. The Royals won their sixth straight, holding off AL Central leading Detroit, 3-2. The bullpen has now gone 20.1 innings without allowing a run, and Jeremy Guthrie pitched strong for his seventh win of the year.

After Miguel Cabrera hit a two run homer off Guthrie in third, Royals catcher Salvador Perez hit a two run triple then scored on Lorenzo Cain’s infield single. The three-run third held up as Guthrie and the Royals bullpen shut down Detroit from that point on.

The Tigers were held to three hits, a walk and hit batter into the seventh, when Aaron Crow came on for Guthrie with one out and runners on first and second. Crow got Torii Hunter to fly out to right, then struck out Cabrera to end the threat.
