35 year old Jake Westbrook made his first rehab start Tuesday night for the Springfield Cardinals as he works his way back from elbow inflammation. He threw 60 pitches in 3.2 innings, giving up six hits and one earned run while striking out five. Forty-five of his 60 pitches were strikes.

Westbrook went on the 15-day disabled list on May 12, and had a setback that extended his stay on the DL.  So far, so good.  He will throw another bullpen and then bump up his pitch count to 75-80 pitches in his next start which is scheduled for Sunday at Single-A Peoria. If all goes well, he should be ready to rejoin the club.
