The Saint Louis baseball team will play in the Columbia Regional in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, as announced today on ESPNU. The Billikens will be the no. 4 seed in the regional, playing host school South Carolina in the opening round. Three seed Liberty and two seed Clemson will play in the other half of the Regional. The Bills reached the NCAA Tournament by winning the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and earning the conference’s automatic bid.
The Billikens (41-19) are coming off an A-10 tournament in which the team won five consecutive games (four in a 27 hour span) to claim the program’s third title. Saint Louis had four players earn All-Conference accolades: freshman Michael Bozarth, senior Alex Kelly, senior Marco Mejia and sophomore Mike Vigliarolo. Kelly was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after breaking tournament records in hits (15) and RBIs (13). SLU also shattered the tournament records for team hits.
First pitch against the Gamecocks will be on Friday, May 31 at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
