Thomas leads Mizzou into Super Regionals for softball

May 19, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Chelsea Thomas pitched a one-hitter to get No. 6 Mizzou past Hofstra and into the NCAA Super Regionals with nine strikeouts in a 5-0 win. Thomas improves to 24-4 on the season. Sophomore 1B Kelsea Roth and senior Nicole Hudson homered in the game after Hofstra beat the Tigers 10-0 earlier in the day to force a decisive second game.

The Tigers have advanced to the Super Regional round of the tournament for six consecutive seasons.

The Tigers jumped out in front in the bottom of the first inning with two outs when Hudson doubled and scored on Mackenzie Sykes’ single.

Roth’s homer gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with one out in the bottom of the second. It was her 16th of the season, and Hudson matched her for team lead with a two run shot in the fifth that made the game 5-0.
