A four-run fourth inning and some timely pitching was all the Cardinals needed as they beat their former teammate, Kyle Lohse, for the third straight time with a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.

“Baseball is a stupid game…baseball is weird, man. You make some good pitches and they get some good hits.”

John Gast (2-0) won his second straight start and Seth Maness escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the seventh. It was an odd outing for Maness. He allowed no runs and five hits in 1.2 innings. He’s just the ninth pitcher since 1916 to allow five hits and not give up a run, while retiring five batter.

The win was 14th in 17 games for the Cards, who took two of three from Milwaukee and lead the season series 8-2.
