Residents of a St. Louis neighborhood are being offered a free stay at a hotel because the stench from a nearby landfill is stinking up their lives.
Odors from the Bridgeton Sanitary Landfill are expected to get worse this month, and people who live within a one-mile radius of the site have been offered the free stay away from their homes.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Republic Services of Phoenix, which owns the landfill, is paying for their lodging through mid June.
Attorney General Chris Koster has sued Republic on eight charges of violating state environmental laws.
