The state revenue department has ordered its local offices to stop scanning concealed weapons permit documents and keeping them.  But getting the department to agree to stop all scanning of personal information is proving to be difficult.

Senators have been on the department’s case for more than a month about a new policy of scanning personal information never required before from people getting driver’s licenses and other state ID cards.  Acting department director John Mollenkamp would not commit to Senator Rob Schaaf the department would end all scanning even if funding for it is cut off.

Office of Administration Director Doug Nelson says the Governor will sign a bill banning scanning.  However, time is short to write such a bill and get it passed.
