Another week, another ratings milestone for the Royals in Kansas City. Game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader vs. Cleveland was the highest-rated Royals telecast ever on FOX Sports Kansas City. It averaged a 7.9 household rating (73,000 households) in the Kansas City DMA, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Royals telecasts in Kansas City are averaging a 5.7 household rating through 20 games, up 35 percent over last season.
Saturday’s win was the fourth highest-rated game. It averaged a 7.3 rating (68,000 households), peaking at a 9.6 (89,000 households) in the 9th inning. It was the highest-rated TV program of the day in Kansas City.
FOX Sports Kansas City has televised an estimated 900 Royals games in 11-plus seasons (1997-2002; 2008-13). Nine of the top ten highest-rated games all time on FOX Sports Kansas City are from this season. The game on May 6, 2009, was a win over Seattle which moved the Royals two games in first place. The Royals would own a three game lead the next day at 18-11, the biggest lead they would hold in the AL Central the rest of that season, before they finished 65-97 and in fourth place.
