In the first baseball game in Boston since the bombings, the Red Sox beat the Royals 4-3 during an emotional day on Saturday, but Sunday it was the Royals who got the upper hand. Playing a day night doubleheader, the Royals swept the Sox winning 4-2 and then 5-4 in 10 innings in the night cap.

It was the first time since 1971 that the Royals swept a doubleheader at Boston. This was a road trip that would tell us a lot about this team and so far  this Royals club is passing the test. They’ve taken three out of the first five, ending the Braves 10 game win streak and now putting an end to Boston’s seven game streak.

The Royals have the day off today, then three games at Detroit, starting on Tuesday. The Royals own a 1.5 game lead over the Tigers and are one up on Minnesota.  Pitching has been the key for the Royals and will need to continue this week as they face the big three from Detroit.  Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez are a combined 5-3 with ERA respectively at 2.84, 2.13 and 1.75.
