The Kansas City Royals selected the contract of former American League MVP Miguel Tejada and placed pitcher Danny Duffy on the 15-day disabled list.

Tejada spent last season with Baltimore’s Triple-A team at Norfolk, batting .259 with 18 RBI in 36 games. The six-time All-Star last played in the major leagues in 2011 with the San Francisco Giants, hitting .239 with four homers and 26 RBI in 91 games.

Duffy is recovering from Tommy John surgery to replace a torn elbow ligament. He made six starts last season.
