Former Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress will reunite with old colleague Andy Reid on a revamped Kansas City Chiefs’ staff, with the team naming Reid’s onetime offensive coordinator as an assistant on Thursday.

The Chiefs officially classified Childress as the club’s spread game analyst/special projects coach.

Childress spent seven years under Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999-2005, serving the first three as quarterbacks coach and the final four as offensive coordinator. He was then hired by the Vikings prior to the 2006 campaign and produced a 39-35 overall record with a pair of playoff appearances before being let go following a 3-7 start to the 2010 season.

The 56-year-old Childress was the Cleveland Browns’ offensive coordinator this past season, but wasn’t retained by new head coach Rob Chudzinski.
