Mizzou pitcher Keaton Steele of St. Jospeh, Mo. is the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, following his six innings of shutout baseball against No. 5 South Carolina in the Tigers’ first SEC win. Steele went 1-0, tossing a combined eight shutout innings, striking out 11 and walking just one. He scattered just five hits as he allowed only seven base runners on the week. Steele is the first Tiger baseball player to earn an SEC Player of the Week distinction in Mizzou’s inaugural SEC season.
Steele’s best outing of the week came in game two of a doubleheader against the fifth-ranked Gamecocks on Saturday. In that game, Steele tossed 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out seven against only one walk. Over his last three appearances, Steele has thrown 13 shutout innings, allowing just 12 base runners in that span (seven hits, three walks, two hit batters) and striking out 14 in that span. He is now 2-0 on the season.
