Governor Jay Nixon has lambasted the Senate’s tax package that increases sales taxes and decreases income taxes. Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey (R-St. Charles) says Nixon didn’t become engaged in the process until the bill moved.

One more vote sends the measure to the House, and House leadership has indicated it’s ready to move the proposal forward. Dempsey says he hopes Nixon will get involved in the process when that happens.

Senate Republicans say the tax restructuring would boost business and commerce in the state. Nixon and Senate Democrats say it raises taxes on working Missourians.

The Missourinet has spoken with Republican leadership in the House and Senate and Governor Nixon on the matter.
