The Chicago Blackhawks extended their unbeaten streak to 24 games with a win. The Miami Heat made it 16 in a row last night. The Kansas City Royals made it 11 straight wins yesterday. Too bad it’s spring training ball. Since opening the Cactus League with a 5-5 tie against the Rangers, the Royals have not lost.

Thanks to a grand slam by Alex Gordon, the Royals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-1. Gordon went 3-fo-4, adding a single and a double, driving in four and scoring twice. Opening Day starter James Shields tossed three shutout innings, allowing a pair of hits while striking out two.

The Cardinals played long ball on Wednesday, launching five home runs on their way to a 7-2 win against the Marlins. Oscar Taveras started the power show with a two-run blast to center field in the second inning. Matt Holliday also hit a two-run shot to center, a ball that made it all the way to the batters’ eye. Ronny Cedeno, Matt Adams, and Rob Johnson added solo shots.
