The Missouri Dept. of Economic Development reports Missouri’s unemployment rate dropped to its lowest point in 52 months during January 2013. The state’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate fell to 6.5 percent, the lowest the state has seen since September 2008, down one-tenth of a point from the revised December 2012 figure.

In comparison, the U.S. unemployment rate for January was 7.9 percent. Missouri’s unemployment rate has now been lower than the national unemployment rate for 41 consecutive months. Missouri payrolls decreased by 4,700 jobs in January 2013.
