Missouri’s Alex Oriakhi, a 6-foot-9, 255-pound senior forward, was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 18 points, 6.5 rebounds and three blocks in wins over South Carolina and LSU. Oriakhi recorded his 10th double-double of the season in the win against LSU. It’s the most double-doubles for a Tiger since Linas Kleiza grabbed 10 in 2004-05.

Oriakhi finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. He opened the week a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the foul line vs. South Carolina. He scored 18 points against the Gamecocks and did not miss a shot in two meets vs. USC. Oriakhi hit 15-of-17 shots (.882) in wins against South Carolina and LSU. Oriakhi is now in the Top 10 for blocked shots in a season at Mizzou. Oriakhi has 47 following today’s game, ninth all time.

Oriakhi made Frank Haith cringe when he was asked after the LSU game about the play of Laurence Bowers and if he was looking for revenge against the Tigers, who beat Mizzou 73-70 in Baton Rouge earlier in the year.  Haith is very protective of what and how his players answer questions.  This was a pretty funny exchange.
