The No. 1 ranked Cougar men’s basketball team improved to 32-0 on Saturday afternoon with a 97-56 victory over Williams Baptist (Ark.) College in the semifinal round of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) postseason tournament. With the win, Columbia ties the school record for victories in a single season and also advances to the AMC tournament championship game for the second year in a row.
The Cougars used an 18-2 run midway through the first period on their way to a 57-34 lead at the halftime break. Columbia continued to roll in the second half as the Eagles never got closer than 21 points over the final 20 minutes.
The top-seeded Cougars will host No. 2 seed Park (Mo.) University on Tuesday night in the AMC tournament championship game. The Pirates defeated No. 3 seed Missouri Baptist University 76-65 in Saturday’s other semifinal matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Arena of Southwell Complex in Columbia, MO.
