Running back Steven Jackson will void the final year of his contract with the St. Louis Rams and test the free agent market. Jackson was scheduled to make $7 million this next season and the Rams would not have been able to afford that contract, which would have meant they would have had to release him. This does not necessarily mean that Jackson will no longer play for the Rams. It just means there are other teams that can compete for his services.
In the meantime, the Rams are meeting with Jackson’s agent in Indianapolis to talk about restructuring a deal for Jackson who said he wants to spend his entire career in St. Louis. The 30 year old Jackson is the Rams career rushing leader.
