According to multiple reports, the San Francisco 49ers have wrapped up a trade that will send away quarterback Alex Smith. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports tweeted that the 49ers wrapped up negotiations with a team not yet known. However, Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com says a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs looks like the best case scenario.  Also, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported on the NFL Network that the Chiefs have the most interest, and that new Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is intrigued with Smith’s mobility.

Any deal with Smith and the Chiefs wouldn’t be finalized until the league officially begins the new season on March 12.

As far as the number one pick, Rapoport brought up a good point and something to keep an eye on.  The Chiefs are interested in Texas A & M left tackle Luke Joeckel.  If the Chiefs use the number one  pick on him, they will let Branden Albert go via free agency before the draft in April.  if that happens, the Chiefs will have tipped their hand.
