Laurence Bowers and Phil Pressey, the only two holdovers from the Mike Anderson era at Mizzou, shot a combined 3 of 19 from the field with five turnovers and just four assists as the Tigers fell to Anderson’s Arkansas Razorbacks 73-71.
Mizzou had the lead late, with a chance to make it a two possession game, but BJ Young converted on a pair of three-point plays in the final minute to help Arkansas rally. The Tigers were down eight with just over eight minutes to play, but managed to go on a 15-6 run during a six minute span to open a 65-63 lead with 2:15 to play.
It was the Tigers first lead since the 17:11 mark of the second half.
The Tigers had the ball with a chance to extend the lead, but a Phil Pressey turnover led to an Arkansas layup tying the game at 65-65 with 1:15 to play. Pressey came back down the floor and hit a jumper in the lane putting the Tigers back up by two. Â It was just his second field goal of the game. Â He was 2 of 9 shooting.
Arkansas needed to foul Mizzou and the Tigers went 4 of 6 at the line down the stretch, but the Hogs got seven points down  from Young who completed two, three-point plays. One came on a questionable foul by Keion Bell as it looked as though Young traveled…taking three steps that the officials didn’t catch.
Down 72-71 with eleven seconds to go, Pressey was doubled team off an in-bounds pass and was stripped of the ball. Young hit a free throw on the other end to make it a two point game, and with one chance left, Jabari Brown missed a three-pointer at the buzzer for the win.
Marshawn Powell led Arkansas with 24 points, while Young had 18 and Coty Clarke added 13 for the Razorbacks — who are 15-1 at home this season.
Keion Bell led Missouri with a season-high 25 points, while Earnest Ross added 16.
Of the six road losses this season, four of them have been by one possession.
